Goals for the month of May, 2010

I am going to list what the plan is for the month of May, 2010 for our homeschool lesson plans. Then at the end of the month, I will report on our list of accomplishments. I do this because Princess Penguin is struggling with following through with her projects. We have alot of start ups, but little completed. So here goes:

1. Complete the lower level review work in Time4Learning for ALL Penguins
2. Finish Discover the Scriptures Book of Mormon Lower Grades Book
3. Reading Fluency improvements with daily reading, Grandma Reading lessons, and reduced TV time
4. 30-days of continuous journal writing for Angel and Princess - a goal for their Achievement Girls' progress
5. Articles of Faith memorization - All 13 (again, a goal for their Achievement Girls' progress and soon Duty to God for Buddy)
6. Real Math Experiences - Budgets, Cooking, Monopoly, etc...
7. Daily Scripture Reading
8. Schedule Yearly Testing (All three penguins)
9. Princess will work continuously on her writing projects! (Hopefully, to completion!)
10. RENFEST
11. History, Discovery and Food Network Channels (Educational Television)
12. Gardening
13. Writing Contests
14. Blogging/Journaling
15. Genealogy
16. Service Projects
17. Household Chores

What's your plans for the month of May? I know we have a busy schedule. I prefer it that way - I don't like to be idol for too long. It's important to show the penguins that life happens while we are working towards our goals.

March - April Curriculum Review

The last two months we have been working on multiple projects:

All of the penguins are currently working on:
Discover the Scriptures Book of Mormon Grades 1-3 while it's a bit young for them this curriculum is a fun way to bring book of mormon studies to the front burner.
Time4learning - each kids does at least one round of time4learning per day including saturday while they realize they are learning they are also having alot of fun with the curriculum. I also get a chance to see where each penguin is having issues.

Angel and Buddy are still working on their reading fluency but great advances have been made already.
Princess reads the Classics for fun!

Monopoly, Budgeting and Cooking has been our math/sciences as of right now - I find my penguins love to learn by doing.

Then's there's Princess with her guitar practice, Angel with Art projects, and Buddy with his Star Wars and Space exploration.

We have been to DisneyWorld all four parks which was a blast!
We haven't been going full speed due to extend illness with Angel though I still believe we are making progress.

Wow, is your schedule as crazy as mine seems...

First, this is a 1 am post due to two little people who are struggling to sleep as they should. Angel will be like this for awhile due an extend illness. While Buddy has always been a fitful sleeper. I don't mind though, I actually enjoy watching my little people sleep. Even Princess is cute sleeping with her bedful of stuffed animals.

Just some rumbling thoughts:

Anyways, I am looking at my schedule for the upcoming month and it seems like we are on the go so much more than usual. Is that normal for your family too? We usually attempt to keep the appointments to one day week, but the next few weeks if not months we seem to have appointments almost everyday for one or more family members including Grandpa. As I care for him when mom just cannot do it because of one reason or another. Isn't that weird how that happens as family we are constantly and always caring for one another if not a parent but as the child caring for the parent. Interesting. It's a weird place to be when the child has to care for the parent as a parent instead of vice versa. I find it difficult to balance being the child and respecting the parent while still caring for the parent because their health is failing and they need to be cared for like a child. (Frustrating.)

I have followers!!! Awesome!!

I am so excited! I have followers on my blog. Thanks so much for joining me. I hope we will come good friends!

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to illness with my sweet Angel -- I will not be able to attend the Midwest Homeschool Conference. I will be at the Latter Day Saint Homeschool Conference in Buena Vista, Virginia. My sweet hubby and I agree that I need the strength from other LDS moms. I called it Mommy Conference Time!!

Striving for Success...

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a compliment from my in-laws today. My MIL called and told me that my FIL was impressed with leaps and bounds that my sweet Buddy has made since we "pulled" him from public school. (Big Smile for me!) I really needed to hear those sweet words today.

Monopoly counts as Math, right?

The kids played monopoly the "correct" way for at least a few hours today. So, I am going to count this as math class because they were actively working with money during those hours. Other than reading aloud and cooking tonight, I am going to have to call it a day. We have an additional kid with us today, so I am not being lazy. I just can't seem to get everyone to move in the same way today! Monday is another day!

P.S. Tracking the weather counts as Science, right? We have been tracking yet another winter storm across our state today too.
